Workplaces designed to promote creativity, collaboration and productivity yield more efficient and satisfied employees. Light, bright environments free from clutter and mess reduce stress and give employees a sense of pride, which is of huge value to proprietors. Our new space, located in The Stockyard @ Railroad Park, will be Birmingham’s first shipping container office- a sustainable concept that has taken off around the world.

SW Principal, Derek Waltchack is our own in-house visionary when it comes to workspace design. He lives for reclaimed materials- which he often handpicks in the woods or on jobsites- repurposing them into unique focal features.

“I’ve seen shipping containers used in amazing and creative ways in developments around world and wanted to bring that energy Birmingham for some time. The Stockyard project presented the perfect opportunity. For the right application it makes a ton of sense to use containers as they are inexpensive and are a self-supported structure with a floor, walls and a roof.”

The modular “building block” model allows for simple rearrangement plans when our company grows or the layout needs updating. Waltchack says, “Using containers reminds me of playing with Legos…just a bigger, heavier version.”

The new concept will maintain the open environment we love at our current space at Railroad Square, while providing a modern aesthetic, while marrying our interests in sustainability and design. The new office will have many features designed to enhance the workplace and energize our staff. In addition to the normal large conference rooms, we offer small private spaces to hold more intimate meetings or make phone calls, allowing employees the flexibility to move around the office away from their desks. A dedicated relaxation space fosters fellowship between coworkers, which often generates new ideas and relationships. We have found that clients respond well when they spend time in our space, allowing them to get to know Shannon Waltchack’s culture, hopefully strengthening their level trust and interest in working together.

People in larger cities might be surprised that Birmingham has multiple “adult playground” office concepts. Daxko, Intermark, Stewart Perry and many more have decided to make their offices inviting, distinctive and dare we say, fun. Check out some of these spaces in the Birmingham Business Journal’s annual round up of the Magic City’s “Coolest Office Spaces.”

The typical corporate workday takes up at least 33% of the day, so try to spend it somewhere great.
