Reflections From 2020 IREM President, Julie Gieger

11.02.2020

Senior Property Manager Julie Gieger, CCIM, CPM is the 2020 Institute of Real Estate Management (IREM) Chapter 43 President. As her term comes to a close, Gieger reflects on her experience as a member, leader and how the organization impacted her career.

“I’ve always enjoyed connecting with other real estate management professionals who are also passionate about creating value for our clients and making the community a better place. IREM is a wonderful organization through which connections are made in the field facilitating fresh perspectives on issues that we are all tackling alongside one another,” said Gieger.

IREM is an international community of real estate managers dedicated to ethical business practices, maximizing the value of investment real estate and promoting superior management through professional certification programs and information sharing.

Gieger has been involved with the local Alabama Chapter throughout her management career. Before serving as IREM President, Gieger was IREM’s 2016 Certified Property Manager of the Year, recognizing her dedication in achieving management excellence and advancing the profession. She also held the Treasurer position on the Board in 2017.

Chapter 43 covers the entire state of Alabama, but most of the organization’s activity currently occurs in Birmingham. “There are so many great property managers throughout the state that could benefit from getting involved with the our chapter. My focus for the year was to expand the chapter’s involvement in other markets like Huntsville and Mobile and include student outreach,“ said Gieger. These plans were temporarily suspended due to the pandemic, but will move forward as soon as it is safe to travel and assemble.

The Property Management team at Shannon Waltchack has been involved in IREM from the beginning. Our managers are focused on the latest technology, industry trends and opportunities to communicate with managers and vendors to uphold industry standards and train the new generation. Many of our team members currently serve in leadership positions and on committees with IREM.
