ANOTHER AWESOME NEW RESTAURANT IN LAKEVIEW

02.02.2016

Looking for a lunch spot during this dreary weather? Brighten up your day at Skycastle Gastro Lounge.

Walking into Lakeview’s newest hotspot, you feel as if you’re transported into rock n’ roll’s hey day. The restaurant is an ode to WSGN, Birmingham’s top radio station in 1955, which was located on 7th Avenue South. Read more about Skycastle’s inspiration here. The interior is unlike any other spot in Birmingham, with retro furnishings, a copper bar, and unique lighting.

“Literally when I stepped into Skycastle, I felt like I was in a different city,” said Principal Derek Waltchack.

The menu is a mix of new things to sample and old Southern faithfuls. We had a hard time deciding, as everything sounded intriguing. We started with a skillet of shishito peppers, topped with parmesan and red pepper flakes- a warm, bright dish for a chilly day. For entrees we decided on the Fried Oyster PoBoy and the Tagliatelle Carbonara. Both dishes came out perfectly piping hot, well-seasoned and delicious. It was the perfect pick-me-up for the cold January day.

Make sure to stop by for happy hour as well, so you can sample the libations at the bar. It’s going to be a great place to catch a game, due to the plentiful flat screens all around the restaurant. We look forward to many more exciting meals at Skycastle!
